Ndevu Estate, comprising 20,000 ha (200 sq km) is located in hilly Miombo woodlands interspersed with Mopane and Riverine vegetation.  It is the meeting place of two ecosystems; the valley proper and the foothills.The Luangwa River flows through a narrow section of hills known locally as the "gorge".

There are numerous rivers that water Ndevu Estate and pool during the dry season. Annual rainfall at Ndevu is between 900 and 1000 mm during the rainy season which is from November through to April.  However, a maximum of 1.5m has been recorded.
